.: I Love This Industry :.

From hair brushes to curling irons, and photo shoots to fashion shows, hair school is a total blast! Not only do we learn basic hair cutting skills, we also explore other theatrical fields related to the industry...

In order to build our portfolios, photographers periodically come to our school to help with photoshoots. I was selected as one of the models and was done up to resemble an existing magazine photo. Some of my photos turned out pretty ugly, so here are just a couple I liked.

I had obviously never done this before and it was weird having everyone staring at me and having to pose awkwardly. It was odd but fun. I felt like I was on America's Next Top Model (one of my favorite television shows of all time!!)

The photographer was kind of a pervert and creeped us all out. But he was a relative of one of my instructors so we students were obligated to be nice. Luckily I made it throught the shoot unharmed though.

In addition to our photo shoots, my school also put on a fashion show at the Scera Theater in Orem. The show was called Fashion Notes, and portrayed how fashion has changed throughout time in the music industry. Each group was assigned a genre. Much to my disliking, I got stuck with country.

Most girls only had one model to worry about, but somehow I ended up with three. We studied photos of the celebrities in order to recreate their hair, wardrobe, and makeup. My girls were Taylor Swift, Reba Mcentire, and Dolly Parton. Maybe you don't think they look convincing here, but up on stage they were terrific.

Here is my fabulous group:
Johnny Cash, June Carter, Dolly Parton, Faith Hill, Shania Twain, Old Western Couple, Taylor Swift, Reba Mcentire, (Me), and Garth Brooks

The fashion show was hard work and very stressful at times, but luckily it was a success. We had an awesome turnout, as well as great models and entertainment. Thank you to all my family and friends who came and supported me :D

TrIcKs N TrEaTs

When I was younger my mom and I frosted sugar cookies every Halloween. And since cookies and painting are two of my favorites, it is a tradition I will definitely keep up. So here is a display of some of the festive cookies we frosted.

My cute kitty

I didn't feel like frosting the witch, but I'm glad I did because it turned out to be my favorite.

Not only were our cookies adorable, they were also delicious!

What would Halloween be without carving pumpkins!? Mine is a portrait of our bunny Buster, and Blake carved Two-Face in his (probably the worst pumpkin carving ever- from Blake).

Maybe Blake and I should have teamed up and carved one pumpkin between the two of us like our friends did. Their pumpkins turned out really good.

Blake and I went to The Nightmare on 13th with a group of friends. I'm not easily scared so I had no problem asking the monsters for pictures.

You can't tell but the monster behind me was about ten feet tall. He is bending over to strangle me so it is difficult to notice.

This is the sweet Nightmare on 13th Castle. Luckily we had VIP passes so we didn't have to wait in line with the rest of these suckers.

No we aren't trying to kill the bunny, Blake and I thought it would be fun to dress Buster up for Halloween. Originally we decided he would be a pumpkin, but we soon realized that particular costume would be difficult for Buster to wear. We decided that a cut up grocery bag would make the perfect ghost costume for our little bunny. Luckily Buster was a good sport and held still during his ghoulish transformation. Isn't he precious!

I knew before October that I wanted to be Britney Spears for Halloween. I thought people would not realize who I was, or think I was dumb for dressing up like skanky Britney. Then I realized that everyone secretly loves Britney even though they deny it. Come on, admit it. And I was right, everyone loved my costume :D

Here is Britney in her "Hit Me Baby One More Time" video. Clearly I had to modify my costume to be a bit more modest, but you get the point.

Unlike myself, Blake had no clue what he wanted to dress up as. First we thought he could be K-Fed to match my Britney costume, but we didn't have any gangsta clothes laying around the house. Then I thought of a punk goth, but I think the idea of eyeliner scared my silly husband. So Blake decided he would be an exaggeration of his geeky self. Even though he looked like a nerd, he was still a total hottie to me ;)

My school held a Halloween party with several festive competitions. The first was a nails contest where we had to paint a nail tip. I didn't feel like participating but my instructor made me, so I painted Jack from "The Nightmare Before Christmas", standing in a pumpkin patch. Everyone voted on their favorite nail, and I won! There was also a costume contest. Since hair school girls love Britney, I won the "most creative costume." Here is a picture of me holding a bag of nail product and hair product that I received for winning each contest.

On Halloween night we went with a group of friends to Heehaw Corn Maze. We thought it would be lame, but it was surprisingly fun.

Our future home

When Blake saw the Heehaw playground he reverted back to childhood and had lots of fun swinging on the tire horse.

Due to Blake's wonderful navigational skills we made it through the the maze rather quickly. Unfortunately, our friends did not, and we spent a while waiting for them at the end. When we reentered to see why they were taking so long they kindly greeted us with flying corn husks.

In addition to the corn maze, there were several other fun activities. Here we are sliding down a hill slide on gunny sacks. We were the only ones over the age of ten on the slides, but we didn't let that stop us.

If you know my hubby you probably know that he loves animals. At the petting cages he wanted a picture with every animal. He was particularly fond of this baby goat. Maybe it reminded him of Shadow and Kobe or something. Who knows.

I think the sheep was trying to eat Blake's leg.

Our Cruise!

The Flee Market. Everyone was so pushy, but we bought some fabulous items way cheap. The people kept calling me Barbie and Britney.
Our towels were folded daily to look like animals. I thought it was adorable.
The world's largest thermometer

Catalina Island

Blake kept telling me we were due in for another Titanic and our boat would most likely sink. What a sweet husband I have.

The turtle was opening his mouth and shaking his head like he was laughing. Funny, but also a little creepy.

I thought it was nice the Hispanic man offered to take our picture, but then he expected a tip. I should have known.

Some Hispanic guy insisted we have our picture taken with the Viagra Man

Blake thought the sign was hilarious and insisted I take a picture of it.

I won a bear at Circus Circus in Vegas. I was pretty proud of myself.

We Made A Blog!

I've noticed a common trend among young married couples. It seems after marriage, the next step in the relationship is creating a blog. Since Blake and I have been married a little over five months, we decided we had better get on it asap! So here is a little highlight of the fun times we've had this year...

Blake and I with our pet bunny, Buster!

Reliving our first date at the Secondhand Serenade concert

Hiking with the family at Bryce Canyon

Tubing together at Lake Powell
